We reached 20,000km just south of Salvador on the Brazilian coast. Idyllic sounding, it was actually the rainiest day of our cycle trip around South America so far, and we only stopped for a few minutes to celebrate.
Laura and Paddy's adventures by bike
Guyana is a great country to cycle in. We’ve put together some information about our time riding there for cyclists planning a similar trip.
Being in the Guyanas is a bit like being in Europe with the different foods and languages as well as being able to hop between capitals in next to no time. It took us just five days to cycle from Georgetown, Guyana to Paramaribo, Suriname.
The unpaved road from the Brazilian border to Guyana’s costal capital, Georgetown goes through the Amazon rainforest and when it rains it becomes impassable. We were delighted to arrive before the wet season, but learnt that they’re called ‘rainforests’ for a reason.
